filter sock vs no sock

hello all... I know a lot of people run their sump without any filter sock. is your water crystal clear running without any sock? I understand a filter sock is a nitrate factory but my water is a tad cloudy when i run it bare. is your water just as clear without a sock? I have 2 bags of chemipure in my sump. sometimes I dont want the sock to catch the food. I dont over feed and like whatever i put in there to stay in there.
