Hi guys. I continue to have issues with my tank.
Quick stats. 55 gal, fowlr, reef octopus skimmer, hang on back filter, 2100gph in power heads, tank about a year and a half old...
Since day one I have had a dust on my rocks. I can brush it away and it is back within 5 minutes. Filter hasn't helped. I am doing regular water changes, and have increased to every 2 weeks and haven't seen a change. I adjust the power heads every which way and that doesnt help. My skimmer also has never really worked right and I would like suggestions for a better quality one. There is no happy medium, it either overflows into the cup or the foam doesn't reach. It also accumulates waste in the bottom of the skimmer. I have removed it and cleaned it many times. I upgraded to a magnum 350 canister filter rated for a 100 gal tank this morning and haven't seen improvement yet today. My LFS said adjust the waterflow and aim it at the rocks. Suggestions? Is this just from my sand? Or bad water quality?
