Almost 2 weeks ago, I changed my 30g tall reef tank (which has been established for over a year) to a 33g long tank.
I put NEW LIVE SAND in the 33g tank, I used all of my water from the old tank, and just transferred my filter system to the new tank.
All of my ammonia, ph, and nitrite levels are fine, and the fish seem happy as ever.
However my NITRATE level seems to be through the roof! Even almost 2 weeks after the tank changeover. Is this due to the new sand? Is this just a cycle and I need to be patient? Or should I be doing a water change immediately?
Any advice or information would be greatly appreciated.
