Hello forum,
I need some help or advise on restarting my 150g DT. I am currently running a 150 reef for the past year and a half, I have nothing but 2 corals in it and about 9 fish.
Below is a list of equipment currently running in the tank + water parameters:
2x dimmable LED fixture
1x night simulation light
4x Koralia evo 1400 powerhead
120 lbs of rock
60 lbs of sand
50 gallon refigium
Reef Oct 3000int skimmer
carbon
GFO reactor
150 watt heater
ATO
RODI system
BRS 2 part doser
parameters:
salinity 1.026
Nitrate 0
Nitrite 0
Cal 420
Mag 1320
Alk 9
Phos .25
temp 79.5
ok so the issue I'm having is that of an aipstasia outbreak, its gotten out of control to the point that it is all over the rocks and in parts of the sand about all different sizes. I have tried using aipstasia-x, vinegar, lime juice, peppermint shrimp, bbf, even some chemical treatments and I have dissipated it a bit but never got rid of it completely. I really want to have a full blown reef and all but don't want to do it before getting rid of the pest. I have a 40g breeder I can temporarily setup with the right equipment to run it in the meanwhile.
I am really considering taking the tank apart and restarting it, I know that doing this will kill most if not all of the beneficial bacteria since I'm dipping all the live rock in vinegar for a few days. The sand I can either wash it with RO water and kill all bacteria and reuse it or buy new sand or go bottomless.
In the process of restarting the tank I want to right a couple of wrongs, for example I have bought a better powerhead for the tank (Jebao wp-15), will have a custom build hanging canopy and going back to T5's (LED's are not giving me the results I want), and finally really do a better job at aquascaping.
Should I keep some of the water from the main tank to re-use once putting the tank back together or should I discard of the water in case eggs and **** form aipstasia get re-introduced in the tank?
Any thoughts or advise on getting this done swiftly will be gladly appreciated.
