Hey guys, i just bought an established 90 gallons with 25 gal sump. The original setting was with two sumps for a total of 55 gal of sumps.. Since i didnt have the room, i only kept one of the sumps. I changed the sand ( he had a dsb i just added a bit of live wet pack sand for the look of it, about one inch of it). Its been 4 days now and the water params are all good (0 nitrites and amonia, 7 alk, 450 calcium, 0 phosphate.. Except one ... Nitrates... In two days, the nitrates are to the roof... I am wondering if i removed to mich bacteria by removing sand and downsizing the sump... Should i get the bioload down? I have 12 fish and 3 shrimps, maybe a dozen hermit crabs. Any inputs would be appreciated... Btw when i say to the roof, my api test shows 160 ppm.. I tested two days ago and it was at 40 ppm... Im doing a 20 gallons water change today to see if that will stabilize.
