I have developed an interest in a saltwater aquarium. I have maintained many freshwater aquariums in the past. I am just now in my research phase as I slowly gather material. I have just scored, or at least I feel that it is a score, a 6 month old 75 gal tank for $60. Not even remotely ready to start building, but I could not pass on the deal. I plan to start with a FOWLR.
So far, this is what I have compiled as a basic checklist for what I will need: See attached document
Does anyone have any recommendations on equipment? (lighting, powerheads, heaters, filters, etc.) Specific brands would be helpful.
I plan to cure my own live rock. Is there anything I should be mindful of when shopping around for uncured live rock? Suggestions on a good setup to cure live rock would also help. (I hear the smell can be quite awful)
I would also like some recommendations on a good starting community of fish. I'm going through one of my reference guides that has over 700 species of fish and invertebrates in it and it is a bit overwhelming. I would also like to be able to step up the difficulty as my experience with saltwater grows.
I'm up for the challenge and I'm excited to start this new hobby. Any help, advice, or feedback is greatly appreciated. I know this is asking a lot, but thanks in advance.
