Am I risking Aiptasia infection or being paranoid?

I put this in my tank thread but thought it might be worth putting in its own thread. A coworker or mine is going to give me live rock from his sump. The problem is he has aiptasia in his main tank. He says there isn’t any in the sump that he has seen.



After reading on here about aiptasia I feel like even after he gives the LR to my I won’t use it for fear of infesting my new tank.



So am I being paranoid if the rock shows no aiptasia on it? I was planning on using a toothbrush in RODI water to clean the rock anyway.



Could I just soak the rock in a bucket of almost boiling water and just kill everything (converting it to basically base rock) and then buy a piece of LR from my LFS?
