question about nitrates

so my local fish store does free water tests and this new person was there. took my water and tested only for nitrates. when usually they do all really important ones ammonia, nitrite etc. Anyway my nitrates she said was 100. not sure if she really meant 100 or 1.00? does nitrates test go up to 100? Also she said she didn't test for ammonia or nitrites because once you cycle your tank you will never have a problem with either of those.
