I really need some help with cycling my tank...

OK, so first off, happy new years to all of you on this forum!!

Im new here, and looking for some clarification on my 29g biocube.

currently im cylcling my (hopefully) soon to be reef tank. Ive had a 55g in the past that hasnt gone well (fish deaths, disease, tank crashes). My thought process for setting up this tank was that I would get a fresh start on the reefing world, and hopefully have better success with this tank. Ive just got this tank set up (this is currently day 8), and I havent seen a change in my nitrogen cycle. Ammonia still reads 0, nitrites 0, and nitrates 0. I started this tank with freshly mixed salt water(salinity was the brand name i think), dead rock, and live sand. I originally put a piece of shrimp in there as an ammonia source, up until day 3, where i decided to try dr. tims one and only nitrifying bacteria, with a maroon clown and a yellow watchman. day 8, both the maroons died, they were of equal size, so one killed the other, and then refused to eat food. my yellow watchman is still in the tank, but i havent seen him all day, so maybe hes dead too... Idk what i did wrong, everything in the tank is still reading 0, and im losing fish left and right. I dont want this to end up like my 55g, and im very stressed out right now, so any help i could get from you all would be much appreciated, and thank you in advance :)
