need some advise

so i went on on a lil vacation for 3 weeks and the person i had care for my tank did nothing but feed the fish so now i have algae caked on my glass and my nitrate is spiked tried scrubbing the algae off got some but its like glued on. any advise on how to get my nitrate and algae under control
