I have seen posts asking about how to tell if there is stray voltage in the tank...I was cleaning out a lot of LR today and just got home from the LFS. I noticed a mushroom had fallen off the rock I tried to get it to attach to, so grabbed a long handled scraper and "ZAP"...I got a jolt when my finger contacted the water. No issues all morning when I was in the tank. Just in case it was static electricity, I touched the water again and got zapped again.
Two questions: One is if that is stray voltage as I have never heard anyone say they got zapped before. Secondly, how can I find the culprit without unplugging things one at a time and sticking my finger in the water to get zapped again? I have a heater, main pump, three maxijets and a Korelia running. The protein skimmer is currently unplugged as I am in the process of tearing things down with a new tank coming on Thursday. I was going to reuse the heater and four powerheads, but am replacing the main pump at that time. I'd rather not put something in the new tank that is releasing current into the water.
