Hoping some more experienced reefers may be able to offer advice on keeping a quarantine tank. This is my first QT.
It's a 29g, 30x13x18, no rock or sand, just some PVC parts for fish to hide in (ABS floats I found out). I added a single 200W heater and a 550GPH powerhead. Filtration is a Rena Filstar XP2 canister filter. The only lights are some blue LED's for ambiance.
I soaked the sponge filter media from the canister filter in my sump for a week before setting it up, using 10g of water from my DT and the rest fresh saltwater. I threw in some mysis shrimp and it's been running for a week.
How often should I do WC's? Just test and change when nitrates get high? Anything else I should do regularly to keep it in good condition, to be ready for new fish on a moment's notice?
Thanks!
