Please Help Me!

:wavey:I have been looking, looking, looking, and never found any answers. I have been doing regular water changes on my 40 gallon breeder tank that started with about a 1 inch deep sand bed. When I change my water, I use a siphon and suck out the bottom of the tank, which causes some of the sand to be removed from the bottom. Now I am to the point where I need to replace my sand bottom. Based upon my research I have read that it is not good to use "live sand". Ive read that this is not a good idea because it will cause your system to go through another cycle. Some people recommend that you use dry or dead sand, but rinse it before using it. My LFS however does not carry but one type of dry sand which is different that the live sand I originally bought. Ive read that you can use live sand but rinse it before use to rinse out the bacteria in the sand. My question is, can I use live sand? Should I use dry sand? How would I go about rinsing the dry sand/live sand? My sand is about a 1/4 inch deep and Im wanting to replace it soon. I really need help. Ive done so much research and I just want to do what is right!
