Voltage converter idea?

I'm not sure if this has ever been discussed but I had an idea about controllable powerheads and an Apex system. I know an apex will control tunze DC PH's and Ecotech PH. I read that apex will not control Hydor DC PH's because they use 12v and the apex will only do 10v systems. But can a converter be built that will convert the 10v signal into a 12v equivalent that the Hydor PH's can use? That way the apex thinks it's controlling the output of a 10v appliance and the converter is changing that output to a 12v output to the PH? I know something like this can be built but would it be cost effective? I mean a 12v Hydor PH is like $40 but the controller is almost $300. What do y'all think?
