Hoping for some urgent help here! In the last few weeks 3 of my emerald crabs have died in my tank. My parameters all appear perfect and I'm religious about my water changes and husbandry. I just assumed it was a coincidence but have since started hearing a clicking noise coming from the tank, like my heater banging against the glass (but its not). Reading up one suggestion is potentially a mantis shrimp??
My question is how likely is this a mantis, and if so how the hell do I get rid of it? My tank is 7 months old with live rock. Other inhabitants are hermit crabs, snails, 2 clown fish, 4 green chromes, 1 dotty back orchid, 1 scooter dragonete and a very much loved cleaner shrimp who I would hate to be the next 'victim'.
Would a mantis have came in as a hitchhiker with a coral? The rock was in the tank from the very beginning so would it have been hidden this long? And how do I trap it or kill it without harming the cleaner shrimp??
