So I finally have my upgrade 75 up and cycling now, but I have not been able to get the main siphon line perfectly quiet. It is not terrible, but I know I am doing something wrong.
My worse fear is inspite of all of my research I never saw that I should have drilled the open drain 1/4" above the others, all three drains were drilled at the same height. Is this my problem? If so, is there any way to mitigate that or will I just need to live with the occasional rushing/gurgling sound?
Other thoughts, I have threaded 90s inside the C2C overflow, am I maybe getting some air in the pipe? I didn't see a need to tape them on the inside, so they are just hand-threaded into the bulkhead. If I adjust the valve on the main siphon I get either a steady trickling sound, or nothing with a flush of water every 5 seconds or so.
Other items:
The line on the open channel is currently attacked to the side of the tank with a hair clip (temporary :) ) and is just above the height of the emergency.
All three drains sit about an inch below the water level of the sump.
I had to go cheap on the return pump and will upgrade it later, but it is an eheim 2000. I left the return line at 3/4" pipe since that was what the connection was. Should I change to to 1" instead? Just trying to think of anything I might have screwed up.
I can post pictures if that will help, not hugely concerned by this but the sound is annoying, so if any wiser heads have any ideas it would be appreciated.
