Need advice on teenage problem

Hello. I'm not sure if this is the right place to discuss this but anyway, I hope I can gain some few advise.
My son recently started this reef tank project at school and now he is glued to this hobby. But it's no longer healthy since he is having some problems in school and spend most of his time in his reef tank. I'm planning to confiscate the tank and have him concentrate school. Would this a good thing to do?
