What is the highest safe temperature for a reef tank? Right now I have FOWLR but I plan on adding coral when my tank gets older. I live in SW Florida and yesterday it was in the mid 80's. I don't have a chiller and my tank and the water temp got up to 83 degrees. Last night a cold front came through (temp dropped to upper 50's) and my temperature in the tank dropped to 78 degrees over about 15 hours.
Is it better to keep an ongoing consistent temp of about 82 degrees, or is it better to keep it at the high 70's and occasionally get to 82? I can keep the temp at 82 with a heater, but I can't get it to upper 70's when needed as I don't have a chiller and I don't plan on getting one. Is keeping the tank at 82 unsafe?
