Just had a quick question for anybody that may know or may have had similar issues using a metal halide fixture. I have a 400w icecap fixture and ballast, the ballast and fixture are new, they've been sitting for quite a long time but have never been used. I ordered a brand new Plusrite 2408 M59E 400w 20k bulb and put the fixture over my 120g tank and noticed about an hour after starting up the bulb has a slight flicker.
I unplugged the ballast, re-seated the bulb and it ran perfect for 8 hours! Went down to check the tank today, yet again, the bulb was flickering. So, I unplugged it, let it cool down, plugged it back in and it's been running for about 5 hours now with no flicker. I ordered a new bulb because it is the cheapest option and one cannot have enough spare bulbs :> I figured I would see what your guys thoughts were on this matter, while I wait for the new bulb to get here.
