Volcano

Hi
I'm designing a new marine tank and am considering something along the lines of a volcano.
My intention is a small pile of live rock with a small wave maker inside giving the impression of underwater volcano.
Is this a positive for the fish and possible coral or wold the wave effect be too much in the upward direction.
I like hiding things!! But understand water movement is good..
