Hello All,
For several month now I have been battling this really persistent algae problem. We have tried everything from more frequent water changes to adding carbon in the sump, but nothing has been helping a lot. Just recently I have acquired a big cleanup crew, they are helping slightly but the algae is just too much. One of the problems is that the live rock that I have is like a Christmas tree with branches that are EXTREMELY hard to scrub with a toothbrush. Another problem that we found out today was that the RODI water that we have been putting in was contaminated with phosphates. (we are going to switch to a different supplier) What we were thinking was that we were going to take out all of the Christmas tree-like rock and trade it for less-branchy rock. We then are going to perform a big water change to get rid of phosphates. What would you guys recommend for getting rid of this nuisance algae? My tank is a 75 gallon tank with an ASM G2 protein skimmer with about 75 lbs of live rock. I have 2 Koralia 850 powerheads.
Best Wishes,
Thresh
Ps. My skimmer is not producing that much skimmate. I'm getting a sixth of an inch at most per week. The bubble level is just below the neck so when you lift of the head no bubbles come out. How could I solve this as it could be part of the problem?
