Hello Everyone, I have a fluval M60 reef tank that is 9 months old. I have been having either a diatom issue or a dinoflagellate issue for most of this time as well. I currently have 25lbs of LV, 1" of caribsea substrate with 4 fish, 4 small hermit crabs, 4 snails and a sea urchin. I always get my water refills from the local grocery store RO systems. I do weekly vacs of the substrate with the 15-20% water changes. Usually, about 3-5 days later i get this brown film(doesn't seem like its dusty textured since it stays on the substrate after agitation) over the areas of the tank with the most water current as seen in the pic below. If I leave the LED lighting system off or in the moon light setting, the brown will go away after a day or so. I am running chemipure elite in my return side of the rear sump and also the protein skimmer that comes with the tank as a package deal. I am not very happy with the results im getting from this skimmer but am unsure if this issue Im having is from this or not. I do take water samples to my local fish shop and my # have always been perfect. They just keep suggesting i get new snails or urchins instead of helping me find the cause. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!! thanks
