Getting back into it.

I am just getting back into salt water after maybe 15 years; boy did it advance.

I had a buddy getting rid of his set-up to get a newer larger one so I decided to take it. I did not know how bad off it was though and ended up not using much of what he had. Since he did have fish I ended up with them which I am sure is affecting my cycle but I saved some lives and maybe they will be better off.

The tank is a 54 gallon corner and I started out with a really good cleaning then used some of his water and one live rock to keep the fish alive.

I then went to LFS and picked up 60 lbs. of live sand and a large live rock, I pulled out the one rock still being used from the old tank and added the new items this was about two weeks ago. I did not want to reuse the old light so I ran back up to Triton and picked up a Reef Breeder to set on top.

I then added some lava rock that was around from my old tank but was warned afterwards that it would not be as beneficial to the tank as some reef rock so I pulled it out and added a couple pieces of dead coral.

I then decided it was too bare so I picked up a large 20lb live rock with arch already on it and a few nice tunnels then laid it in there it gave me an excellent arch and nice large area to add coral when I am aloud. This was in the last couple days.

I am going through the cycle and still getting the algae, I can’t wait till the cycle is over and I can get moving on cleaning it up.
My PH=8.4, Ammonia=0, Nitrite=1, and nitrate=160.

The sump that came with it is an Aqua Clear 75 with Skimmer (I removed the bio balls), I do plan to upgrade it eventually but first I need a new auto top off and an RODI system; maybe this month. The power head was shot so I ended up with a new wave maker and another small head I had already. I may upgrade the old small one to a larger new wave maker just because I think I would like to see more movement.

Thank you for accepting my request.
