Just saying Hello, NEW to TRT

Hello,

I am Brandon and I started my first reef tank last June. I've always kept freshwater tanks and decided it was time for salt.

I have a 37 gallon column tank, built into the wall. I have been through several varieties of filter including two different sumps(both were not cutting it). I was running my tank without a protein skimmer successfully for the first seven months until all my corals started to fade.

After that I went with a HOB Emperor 400 and a hang on the side 2000 series Protein skimmer which I added BIO balls and filter media to the third chamber (return). Once the new system was installed, I've had great water quality and my corals are doing very well.

I am dealing with a slight algae problem, which in my opinion is due to lack of snails. I only have 8 snails total. Its just a thin film that started when I switched my RO source from grocery store to my DAD's RO system. I also added 4 cardinals at once which most likely played a hindrance on my bio load. The algae isn't drastic but I have to swipe my MAG across the class when I get home from work in order to achieve perfect focus into the tank.

Thanks and I hope to get great advice and to help those who might be in need of assistance. I also want to expand my coral knowledge and Reef Nomenclature.
