Hermit crab fight?

So I look in the tank and I can really figure out what I was So I look in my tank when I get home and I can't really figure out what I am looking at I can tell it's a red leg hermit crab looks like he's trying to climb into another shell but I didn't have any empty shells in there... Then I noticed this little red thing on the bottom of the sand now I am thinking it's one of the other hermit crabs out of its shell and the other guy is trying to move in... Red thing on the sand looks like a cluster of legs I don't think it's moving but I'm not sure.. pretty disturbing to me at the moment!

And I'm watching it for about 10 minutes and then. The aggressive hermit walks the other way..



All of a sudden red legs pop out of this other shell which I thought was empty!!

And it starts moving up this big rock also so was it trying to attack the other crab? Or possibly something else? Do their legs come off and regrow because I have a little cluster of hermit crab legs on the sand and I think all my hermit crabs are accounted for I am totally confused!!!

Could they have been doing something other than fighting??



Really dumb question here....

Do they shed? I will try and pull out that little cluster that I see in the sand but I don't want to go in there at the moment in case it's alive.. I had three red Leg hermit crabs and all three of them appear to be accounted for so I don't know what that could be.. Has anyone witnessed something like this before?



Oh my God I am typing this on my phone looking in my tank and it is moving!!! What it be some strange read Legget hitchhiker? Should I put an empty shell in there for it?
