Hello everyone!
I reached into my tank today to feed my fish some mysis, and it seemed unusually warm. Also, my anemone and zoa's were closed up which is definitely unusual for my tank. So I looked at my heater's digital reading (it's a 200 watt Via Aqua Titanium Heater) and it read 46 degrees Fahrenheit! I didn't believe this, so I immediately took out the old mercury glass thermometer and it read 83... What?!? So I have come to the conclusion that my heater's thermometer is just off, and because it is reading the tank colder than it really is, it is heating it up excessively. Has this happened to anyone else? Is there a way to recalibrate the thermometer of my heater?
I was trying to 'trick' the thermometer by changing the set temperature from 79 to like 46, but it will only let me go down to 50 so that means that my tank is still going to warm up to over 86 if I let it go any longer....
The heater is unplugged for now, but what do I do overnight? My house is at 69, so that will be a big temp drop. And unfortunately my LFS does not have any metal thermometers in, only 100 watt glass ones... Any advice is welcome!
Thank you,
Cam
