Cycling my 30 G with a piece of shrimp

Hello Reefers,

So my 30 G tank has "Real Reef" live rock (Cultured) and Live sand. I put in a small 1/2 inch piece of raw shrimp yesterday to start the cycle. Questions-

1. Was it necessary? - Should I take it out?



2. Is the Real Reef Rock and Live sand enough to start the cycle?
