API test kit wrong? Help?

Ok so last week I got a lot of lectures about stocking my 75 gallon too fast. Surprisingly, everything is still alive and seems to be thriving. Here is the issue though, since I have been paranoid about what everyone has said, I have been testing every other day and everything has been fine. Then suddenly on monday, my ammonia started reading at .50. So my husband and I panicked and did a 50% water change. Ammonia only went down to .25. Every day it has been .50, and goes to .25 after a water change. Ater nearly a week of this, I am honestly starting to think it is my ammonia test kit. Every fish I have is active and eating very well, even eating from my hands at this point. Flame angel is working non-stop eating algae of my live rocks, and in and out of the rocks all day long. All snails are active, and my emerald crab is eating non-stop. My anemone is open and seems fine, and only closes/shrinks when I turn off the lights at night, and I have 3 small coral frags that are always wide-open. (one each of red mushroom, zoanthid, and green star). My water is also crystal clear, and nitrites and nitrate tests are reading zero and 10. Could the ammonia one be wrong? Honestly the biggest problem in my tank is that the mushrooms are moving to BEHIND the rock formations and the anemone is on the rock opposite from the front view. So you can see his tentacles but you have to look in the side of the tank to see the rest of him. Again, this has been going on for a week with no obvious negative effects. I stopped doing water changes yesterday, and no deaths. Any opinions are appreciated thanks.
