homemade water filter

So, I recently constructed a homemade tap water filter I found online. Its merely a 1 1/2" PVC pipe with poly fill and carbon in a media bag shoved into it. One end is fitted to the laundry sink and the other I put a valve to control the outflow.

Any thoughts on how well this set up will work as compared to RO/DI water I have been buying at the fish store? Will this water be ok to put into my tank??
