As hobbyists, we occasionally want to ship coral to other hobbyists or box some up safely for hauling to frag swaps some distance away, etc. Finding good information on how to safely ship coral and scrounging up the material can be difficult, time consuming and expensive since many items are only available in larger quantities or you pay shipping from multiple locations.
We decided to make it easy by putting together some top quality shipping kits using some of the same components that we use ourselves for shipping around the country in all types of climates. These kits are far superior to sticking some thin styrofoam sheets in a cardboard box and bumming some thin plastic bags from your local LFS.
The kits come in 3 different sizes – Small, Medium and Large, which should fit most needs. The small kit is shown here and sells for only $29.95
The kits come with everything that you need to safely ship your coral including:
The kits come with a large number and variety of bags depending on the size of the box which should be more than enough for most normal shipments, but if you are in need of larger bags, etc. just let us know and we will configure the kit for your needs at no additional cost since we will be pulling these kits to order anyway.
The bags are heavy 4-mil bags that are suitable for closing with either the rubber bands that are included or by using a heat sealer which is what we use in our own packaging.
All the material in the kits are reuseable a number of times except for the heat packs, so it may be a good option if you occasionally need to bag and transport coral a distance in your car for frag swapping, etc.
