Hi all. So recently, I've noticed a cataract in the eye of one of my neon tetras, Zap. His swimming appears to be normal, but upon taking a closer look, I realized that his left (bad) eye seemed to be bigger than the right (normal) one. He was too skinny, and his body wasn't the right shape anymore. I've taken him out of the main tank and moved him to a QT tank on my desk where I can observe him. Does anyone know what might be going on with Zap? He's my favorite neon, I would like to save him, if possible.
It's a 20 gallon tank, I'm running an HOB filter (suitable for tanks up to 20 gallons). There are two angelfish (mated pair), 6 other neons, bristlenose pleco, 3 false juli cory cats, one opaline gourami (rescued from a 2.5 gallon). I do water changes once every couple of months, and the tank is thriving. It has live plants, and I change out the filter media once a month. All my levels are ideal, nitrate, I think it is, is around 30 ppm.
