Reef tank help

I currently have a 55 gallon tank with a 20 gallon long sump. The tank is still in the process of being built and I have a Eshopps 300 gallon per our overflow and I will be doing a DIY ato from BRS. I'm going to be getting the reef octopus nwb 110 skimmer. And I have a BRS media reactor and mag drive 5 return. Should I put a refugium in the tank to harbor cooed pods and some macro. The sump is 30 inches long and the first chamber will be 12 inches by 12. The second 12x12 again and the final singing to be 6x12. And something off topic here with the Eshopps overflow when I change my water I would first turn the return off wait for the back siphon to stop take 5 gallons out and replace five gallons and turn my return on and the overflow would still hold the siphon.

This is my first reef tank so please bare with me I've been using this four, for help and it's helped tremendously.
