I kicked off the cycle in my 44 on the 1st with a raw shrimp, got it to 2ppm and then dosed ammonia to bring it up to 5ppm. The then lovely smelling shrimp came out about a day ago. I just checked my ammonia and it was down to about 1 maybe 2 ppm...kinda odd so I tested nitrites and they're sitting at around 1.5ppm......more odd but OK. I checked the nitrates and they're at 20.
I've never had a tank get to this point in the cycle in only four days. The live sand was fresh and just shipped into the LFS but the "live" part is mainly just a gimmick. I used a small piece of their live rock to help seed the tank in addition to the shrimp, ammonia and a bit of ghost feeding.
I'm going to have my water double checked but what gives? I thought it took 2-3 weeks to even get a nitrite reading. Royally confused
