Did another 50g water change this morning, well technically yesterday morning. algae issue is about cleared up...just a little "loose" algae remaining, which should be gone on its own soon. A little toothbrush work will take care of it easily enough. Tested parameters in the evening Salinity at 1.026, Ca at 420, Alk and PH both at about 7.8, which is a touch low. I didn't test for Mg so didn't want to add anything till I test for that in the morning. If Mg is fine, then a little buffer should raise both the alk and PH. Nitrates, PO4, etc all zeros. Took a lot longer than I was hoping, but was finally ready for some fish.
Swung by the LFS to check on some work he is doing for me in the next coming weeks related to an ATO (3-4g/day in evaporation is keeping me busy) and some needed holes in the wall for the plumbing. While there, I noticed a clown I hadn't seen before and a single dark purple maroon clown. They were both in the same tank and had been for over a week (tank was about 30g) without any issues. The maroon was hosting a green bubble tip while the other hung out everywhere but near the bubble tip. Based on size and temperament, we are guessing the other is a male and the maroon is a female.
When I asked about the other clown, I was told it was a hybrid between a maroon and an oscelaris. After some quick research, found a few examples of such of thing occurring. It looks very similar to a moroon, but is very orange in the colaration. Pretty cool.
After acclimating and catching the maroon in the air after it jumped out of the acclimation container, they were added as the first two fish in 210g. I plan to add a few chalk bass, a wrasse, and two tangs (likely a naso and sailfin). That may be it for fish as I plan to load up on LPS and some SPS long term. Finally getting excited again.
