So I have a oceanic bio14 that will eventually be able to house all the way up to sps. I had to add an additional fan to the hood in order to bring the temp down which made a tremendous difference, holds 79-80 degrees even on the hottest days.
These are my levels for the last 11 days
PH=7.8
Ammonia=0
Nitrite=0
Nitrate=80
Salinity=1.024
Temp=79-80
Questions are
1) I added a raw shrimp to cycle tank with about 4lbs cured live rock and 8lbs dry base rock, the shrimp is not completely deteriorated but nitrogen cycle seems to have completed. Should i leave in the shrimp and just let the tank do its thing or, should I remove shrimp and start doing weekly water changes to lower nitrates?
2) Im concerned with the ph but not sure how to raise it without adding chems to it which I am trying to avoid at all cost. Is it ok, will it start going up with age of the tank, or is there a natural alternative to raise?
3) Im taking my time with this tank and want it to be right and a good homey place for the creatures I put in it. currently I am using stock lighting (1-10,000k and 1-Actinic compact flouros). How far can I go with these in this tank? I will eventually build an LED setup but not sure how long that will be.
4) I have 2 of the stock pumps that came with these tanks circulating water one of them is pumping water into the tank from the third chamber and the other i have in the first chamber pulling water in from the tank. I believe they are 136gph. I was planning on upgrading one of these and placing it in the tank but they seem to be doing a pretty good job moving water, any thoughts?
I should probably let you guys and gals know that I am using no filtration, im going to do frequent water changes like Ive read and maybe add a skimmer in the future. Thanks in advance and God Bless
