Must says I have had some ups and downs in this hobby but yesterday was almost as low as it could go. I have a 175 gallon bow front which I love the design. Yesterday during a water change and regular maintenance I notice that the both top plastic braces on the top of the tank had torn away in the back. Nothing but fear ran threw my blood.
So I quickly drained half the tank to ease the pressure and had to run to the store and grab 3 large clamps to hold it in place. I also got 4 tubes of epoxy rated at 4500 lbs. So I prep the area and epoxyed the two braces together and also ran fiberglass rod on the top, and epoxyed them down as well for extra support. Next morning I started to fill the tank back up and 3/4 of the way up I noticed that the epoxy was starting to tear apart and the rods were moving. Not going to work...
Now I am at my lowest point. So I think that I need to completely redo the braces. So I went back to the store and purchase some aluminum stuff to fabricate a new bracket. Basically got an aluminum flat bar, 1 1/2 inch think and put a aluminum solid angle piece on both sides so it hugs the outside of the tank. Took the braces off and its holding great.
It looks like there is more pressure than I thought on those plastic bars on the top of the tank?
Still in fear right now. Ill add a picture so you guys can see. Please let me know what you think.
Also I have no idea how or why my center braces tore away. Just don't understand that at all.
