Long story not very short, this is my first saltwater aquarium, given to me by a friend who has lost interest and time to maintain it, about a week ago now.
I've read a few books this week about keeping marine life in your home, as well as watched plenty YouTube videos for the specific needs of each critter in the tank.
The move was a 10 hour drive, I reserved the water, rocks, fish and coral in pails with airstones, leaving sand, some water and some inverts in the aquarium for the trip.
Luckily once setup, everything looked good. I did a 20% water change right away and monitored NH3, NO2, and NO3 over the following days, changing 20% water each day for the first 3 incase of die off and on the advice of the previous owner..
Everything looked (s) happy. Except, his nasarrius snails have yet to come out and feed, and this morning I found the tuxedo urchin upside down between. Some rocks. The advice really surrounding his beak seems to have been damaged, as if something had attacked and tried to eat him. For the past week he's been cruising around covering himself in small shells eating algae off the glass and back plate. Today not much movement.
No signs off spine loss, though his tube feet seem to be doing nothing and there isn't really any movement from his spines, other than from water movement.
Should I freeze and dispose of or attempt to feed some nori?
Books are telling me my PH should be a little higher. I'm having trouble differentiating PH from carbonate alkalinity at this time. And my GH test always shows an insanely high number so I don't believe it to valid or necessarily relevant.
PH 8.0-8.1
NH3 <0.25 ppm
NO2 <0.5 ppm
NO3 <5 ppm
SG 1.023 - 1.024
28 C
KH ~180 ppm
1% battery will revisit.
