canister filter on reef tank

i have a canister filter on my tank. im not sure if you could consider it a reef tank. i have about thirty pounds of live rock and 3 anemones and 1 coral. i know there has to be some way this will work. can this canister filter house the good bacteria i need for my fish tank> what am i to do? i wouldlike a sump but i cant drill my tank its already set up ? please help me
