For month now anytime I reach into my frag tank I noticed a slight shock. I really thought nothing of it I just figured I have hang nails or short nails that I chew so I thought it was the salt water burning the cut. Yesterday I got a good little zap and I decided this wasn't just a fluke. After testing my tank I was shocked (pun intended) it was reading like 13 volts.
I went around to each device and unplugged it to see if the voltage dropped. I found that my 2 jeabo powerheads were pushing out a 2 volts so I ripped those out and went back to my mp40s. My 2 inline external heaters were pumping out 6 volts. My float switch was pushing out 2v and my skimmer pump was adding 3v.
Once I fixed all of these my shocking went away. The voltage hasn't really affected anything in the tank I don't think everything seems happy and this has been going on for 6 months+.
