I Got Sand!

Well just a little bit. Went to the store this weekend to get another fish and there he was, my sons favorite fish from the first time I took him to a fish store, a melanurus wrasse.

I had no intention of buying him as I have BB tank and was looking more for a sixline or maybe a chromis or two.

So when I told him why we couldn't get him he was so upset. He is 5 years old. He started going through he can't get fish he likes becuase we don't have sand or because we have a reef tank or our tank isn't big enough.

He has never felt so strongly about getting a fish. So starting researching this fish in BB tanks and people who have them in BB tanks have success with them. Only people really saying no are people that have no experience with the fish in BB tanks.

Sure the fish use sand in the wild but in the wild all clown fish also host anemones but in the home we keep clownfish without anemones probably more times then not.

So got him and on the drive home I kept saying I wish I had some sand for him. I hate the thought of putting sand in my tank but if it would be good for him I need to suck it up. So went to Petco bought some sand, bought a little Tupperware container from Target and built him a bed.

My clownfish didn't take well to him. I was almost ready to bring my clown back to the store and he is my oldest fish. He actually caught the wrasse in his mouth and was dragging him back towards his anemone. I slammed on the glass and he let go. My son freaked out. Not something I wanted him to see.

The fish was fine though and didn't have any marks. My Midas Blenny and Coral Beauty did do some nipping and chasing. The wrasse stayed out the whole time though.

He did eat the first morning in the tank and each time after that and is swimming around the entire tank. Clown doesn't bother him, CB picks on him a little bit still as well as my Blenny. My Kole Tang couldn't care less about him.

He does sleep in the sand at night but never went to it to hide after being chased.

Hopefully this guy doesn't have to go the doctor like my Angular wrasse did after carpet surfing. My son asked why does all of his fish need to go to the doctor by my wife's CB never needs the doctor. LOL

So anyone with a BB tank, easy enough if you want a wrasse and want to give it some sand.
