Any good use for canister filter?

As the title says. I have a good quality canister filter lying around and I want to use it somehow on my 40 gallon FOWLR setup. I know the ceramics inside will end up being a nirate factory, but what about filter floss? Carbon filtration? Phosban? GFO? What do you guys think I should do? I'm on a budget so I don't want this thing to go to waste.
