T5HO ballast question

Can I use one of the ballasts from my 48" fixture to power bulbs in my 36" fixture? One of the ballast burned out and I only have 4/6 bulbs working. There is a switch that controls 2 bulbs in my 48" fixture and one that controls the other 4. Can I use the one that controls the 2 to fix the 36" burnout?
