What does a hammer coral release when it dies?

So I let the lfs convince me my tank was ready for a branching hammer coral and against my better judgment I bought one. It died in about two weeks and now I've been fighting cloudy water for 3 weeks.

I've been doing a ton of water changes which helps, but is there something else I can do?

What the hell is this stuff? Is it the photosynthetic component of the coral?

Fish, snails and brittle star seem fine, just hard as heck to find for feeding.

I'm paying the price for my stupidity hardcore, I hope theres something I can do for my tank.

it's a 75G, protein skimmer, 2 Hydra 52's, been up for about 3 months now, my goal is LSP and Softies. My test hasn't shown any Ammonia, Nitrates, or Nitrites.
