Hi all figured I'd post my journey thru my first basement sump room build.
I'll also post tips I found along the way and things I'd have done different.
Here is a list of my Equipment
Main Tank: Marineland 93 Gallon Rimless Reef Ready Cube
Settling Tank: Spray systems 15 Gallon Conical Tank
Sump Tank: 75 Gallon Reef Ready Tank
Refugium: 55 Gallon
Top Off Tank: 29 Gallon
Premixed Salt: 29 Gallon
Pump: Iwaki 70RLT (Jap Version)
Lighting: 2 Rapid Led DIY build
Controller: Reef Angel Plus
Carbon Reactor: Kent 150 Reactor
Phosban React: Kent 150 Reactor
Skimmer: Diablo 220XS
RO/DI: 90 GPD Fire water Ice
Heater: Titanium 300 Watt Heater
Here is the starting layout of my basement sump room. This Saturday once I bring my turtles home I'll have my 75 gallon aquarium that's going to house my Protein Skimmer.
Sunday I'll have my 55 Gallon aquarium that will be my refugium and the 2nd 29 gallon aquarium to go under the main one.
Those tanks will be to the right of the window but left of the main water line.
Was going to go thru the walls to the left of the tank for the piping but there is duct work in the wall the leads to two of the rooms upstairs. So I had to go thru the floor.
The holes that will lead to the basement:
1. To the Settling Tank
2. The Return
3. Siphoning hose to the settling tank (waterless water changes)
4. Cables for the Reef Angel
Here's the Tank and where it will End up. I made the lighting brackets out of 3/4" Conduit.
To do list for this weekend:
1: Prime and Paint the Conduits after I make holes for the wiring.
2: Build Stand for the 75 Gallon Skimmer Tank and 55 Gallon Refugium
3: Put in dividers For the 55 gallon refugium
4: Drill 55 Gallon for the return pump
5: Rough plumbing.
Things I'd have done differently:
1. Better measuring.
As you can see there is a portion of the hardwood floor missing that didn't need to come out. The issue was I just assumed the basement wall and the living room wall were even. Didn't think about framing difference.
Same for the interior of the aquarium, I measure where I though the 2 holes from the bulk heads would be. I just dropped PVC down, marked it and drilled. Well as you can see from the picture they didn't line up with the holes in the hardwood so I had to cut out a square where the PVC would go down.
Tips:
1. Purchase an extra conduit, I purchased 3 since I knew I'd mess one up when I went to do the bending. Guess what I did mess up my first bend since I didn't take into account how many inches you'd lose on the bend.
2. When you are bending conduit give yourself an extra 2-3" for the curve. With every bend I did I lost about 2" for the Curve.
Example: If you want the bottom of the conduit to be 70", mark the bend line at 72.5".
