Anyone using a low cost LED on their freshwater planted tank? I'm trying to find something that is 3W LED's for a 40B (36" fixture) for my co-worker who wants to upgrade his tank. Currently he has a 20H freshwater tank at work, I just picked him up a 40B on Saturday and I'm going to set it up and cycle it at home for him before I bring it in, but trying to help him find a good LED fixture that isn't going to break the bank.
I currently have this fixture running over my 40B saltwater at work, but the light colors are more blue for marine, I'd prefer going more red/green for the planted tank but if I can't find anything better in similar price range he will probably just buy one of these... http://ift.tt/1OfdqBJ
The space we have our tanks sitting on our desks we don't have a good way of hanging lights, so need something that sits on the tank... just curious what others are using, and I'm not spending my own money so trying to find something cost effective... if I can't find anything near the same price range he'll probably just go with the lights I have over my reef tank and deal with the colors not looking quite right for a planted tank =)
