1 week update - Algae growth

I saw in another post where a suggestion was made to add ammonia to the tank to check for it's ability to process it. I'm curious what the difference is between adding ammonia to see if the tank will cycle it, or adding a shrimp to check the process?

When I bought my tank used, it was fully functioning and I removed the live rock and stored it in a separate tank with a pump to keep water moving and a heater to keep the temp right until it all went back into the main tank. After 1 week of putting it all back together I am having a diatom bloom on the sand as well as algae growth on top of the live rock (the live rock that does not get direct lighting does not have algae). The algae on the top rocks seems to be Calothrix (has some air bubbles).

All of the parameters are still at 0 and there has been no change since reassembly. I assume my live rock stayed alive, but not sure. There were 3 cucumbers that remained with the live rock and all are doing well moving about the tank and trying to eat the algae, but they can't keep up with it.

Is it time to add a clean up crew or should I continue to wait for the algae to get under control?
