Hey guys - I believe that I am currently experiencing my first major degradation/tank crash, and I am not 100% sure of the cause. Admittedly, I have been neglecting my weekly water changes, probably went about 6 weeks without one. However, just prior to this, I did introduce my 55 gallon sump, so about 30 or so gallons of "new" water was introduced. My tank was thriving: Green mushrooms literally everywhere, growing to about 3-4 inches in diameter in some cases. I probably had about 100 of them at least (all had started from 1 original about 3 years ago). My frogspawn was out and full, appeared to be growing and expanding. My duncan was always out and full of heads.
About 2 weeks ago, I noticed my frogspawn retreating and seeming to degrade. Now, the past 2 weeks, I have had my mushrooms breaking off, collapsing, and just disappearing. I probably have about 20-30 left, but they are all relatively small. Largest one is probably the size of a quarter. My frogspawn is completely gone, which is very sad since this was the first coral I had in my tank when I started it.
My whole system is a 93 gallon tank with a 55 gallon sump. I did a 25 gallon water change earlier this week. Tested my parameters last night:
Calcium - 400ppm
High range PH - 8.0
Ammonia - 0, could be slightly above, it was tinted a bit beyond the 0 mark.
Nitrite - 0
Nitrate - 20ppm
Phosphate - 2.0 ppm
Here are my thoughts - I need to immediately do another 20-30 gallon water change, and probably another early next week. Thinking I need to change the filter in my RO/DI system. Are there any other recommendations? What do you think was the primary cause? I want to address this and get my tank back to where it was!
