Hello, I'm Dave and I'm new to the hobby. My niece's fiance has had a small reef tank for a few years and his aunt and a few cousins have been in the hobby for years. After a couple years of admiring, daydreaming, and fantasizing about my own tank, I took the plunge. I went with a 55g. I, after the fact, read that it wasn't the best for aquascaping but I'm not trying to do anything too crazy. Right now I have about 30 lbs of live rock and 60 lbs of live sand. My sand bed is about 2-3" average with spots here and there even higher.
Bought my first 2 inhabitants today from lfs-
tiger pistol shrimp(blue)
yasha haze goby
Initially the young kid at lfs sold me a diamond goby(he told me it was a spotted watchman and would pair with the shrimp), which spent 3 hours harassing my shrimp. Called them and explained the situation. Exchanged him for the yasha this evening. By the time I got home and acclimated him it was time for the lights to go off for the evening. Contrary to what may day looks/sounds like i actually have done a lot of reading. I'm not entirely sure how the whole fiasco happend, but it did..
Despite my eventful first day with livestock, I'm very excited to be a part of the hobby.
