Hey guys,
I have several questions about the equipment we have researched before we buy anything. There is so much new information out here and different opinions but I want to make sure that I am on the right track. I had a tank from 2000-2002 when I lived in Anchorage, AK.
So, we're going to go with a 125 gallon drilled tank with a 55 gallon refugium.
1. What RO/DI system should we purchase. Do we need to go all out and get a 7 stage, or would a 3 stage be ok? What is your experience with this.
2. Can I still order LR straight from Fiji? I've noticed the LR regulations have changed in the past 16 years.
3. If I buy all sand from a bag and mostly dead rock, how much live rock will I need to buy to seed my tank adequately? What time difference would we talk with going with all live rock and live sand instead?
4. We are looking at purchasing Hawaiian Black Arag-Alive. Is this stuff okay? Any downsides? I think I had fine sand in my last tank, and I remember the power heads blowing everywhere!
5. Looking at purchasing 2-36" Current USA Orbit Marine Aquarium LED lights for the main tank, and a general, nothing special, 6500K bulb for the fuge. I found these LED's to be well regarded on a couple forums and with high reviews at a few websites
6. Other equipment options are as follows:
JBJ true temp Titanium Heating Kit 500 Watt
7. I haven't found much on exactly how much movement I need to have in my tank but I found good deals on the following powerheads. Please give advice on estimating my GPH needs for good active swimming species without making a hurricane in my tank.
Sunsun JVP-110 528-GPH wavemaker pumps (4 pack)
SunSun JVP-402A 6340-GPH
8. with such a large refugium and the plan for a large amount of chaeto, do we need to have a protein skimmer (reef octopus classic 150sss), what about a canister filter (marineland PC-ML530 stored in shopping cart) for returning overflow from fuge back to main tank
These are our thoughts so far. Please offer suggestions or send me to your favorite web sites!
