45 gallon with Fluval FX4

Local store suggested the Fluval FX4 canister (which is great!) but I'm wondering if I need a skimmer in addition to it? My levels are 0 after 3 weeks and we've added a cleanup crew and 4 fish (2 damsels, 2 clowns) and nothing has died.

Is a skimmer overkill and create more work? The fx4 is capable of 200 gallons.
